Olympic Games coverage

SuperSport and DStv are joining forces to cover of the 2008 Olympic Games.  “The Games begin on August 8 and SuperSport’s multi-channeled coverage will ensure viewers miss none of the action from Beijing, beginning with the opening ceremony from the National Stadium in Beijing at 2pm (on SuperSport 5, 6 and 7/10) through to the closing ceremony on Sunday, August 24, again at 2pm on the same three channels<” Supersport said.

SuperSport 6 is a 24-hour Olympic channel on which viewers will be able to watch live action of all the popular gold medal events. SuperSport 5 and SuperSport 7/10 will also feature live action when there is a clash of event times.

There are two overflow channels — channel 198 on DStv, which will broadcast to the whole continent, and channel 199, which will be for South Africa only.

SuperSport will be represented in Beijing by Crystal Arnold, Ponga Liwewe and Gerald de Kock, with Robert Marawa and Leigh-Ann Paulick presenting from the Randburg studios.

There will be a daily magazine programme, with live links to SuperSport’s representatives in Beijing, for the duration of the Games. The programme, on SuperSport 6, will begin at 19:30 and run for two hours and will include interviews with athletes and highlights of the day’s events.

SuperSport Update (on channel 200 on DStv) will include a 20-minute package of highlights from Beijing which will be incorporated into the regular 20-minute highlights progarmmes on that channel. This package will run as part of as loop that currently features rugby, soccer, cricket and best of the rest.

There is plenty of exciting programming as part of SuperSport’s build-up to the Games. Look out for “Going For Gold”, “Africa To Beijing”, “Great Women Of The Olympics”, Golden Moments Of The Olympics”, “Beijing Are You Ready?”, The Olympic Spirit”, “Opening The Gates To The East” and “Olympic Century”.
