Telkom customers pay more

Telkom’s new rates for 2008, which include an increase on line rentals, kick in today.

Residential line rentals increase from R111.90 to R124.20, while business line rental now costs R165 a month, up from R148.68.  Line installation charges will also increase by R41.07 this month from R342.30 to R383.37.

Telkom Closer subscribers will now get more free minutes but at the same time pay more from this month. These subscriptions include an increase of R15 for the Closer 1 package, R16 for the Closer 2 service and a R33 price hike for the Closer 3, 4 and 5 services.

Residential ISDN customers will pay R219.30 a month from August, up from R197.57, while business customers will pay R304.60, an increase of around R30 a month from the previous R274.40.

This month the minimum charge for post-paid local calls (0-50 kilometres) will increase by 9.4% and the per-second tariff for local calls during standard time will increase by 3.1% and during Callmore time by 9.2%.

There is some good news for Telkom’s business customers, however, as the price for Diginet services is reduced by 4%, Megalines by 3% and ATM express rates by 3%.

There are also some savings in store for people calling international destinations such as the UK, USA and Europe.

ADSL prices remain unchanged.
