Vodacom upgrades network

Vodacom has started to replace parts of its 2G and 3G network, promising better performance and stability and a clearer migration path to future technologies such as LTE.

The company started moving over to a full Huawei network in Mpumalanga, replacing its existing 2G Motorola gear and its 3G Siemens gear. In the Western Cape Vodacom is replacing its existing Siemens 3G network with Alcatel equipment. There is also a roadmap for the rest of the country to migrate to Huawei and Alcatel equipment.

While Vodacom subscribers should see improvement in service levels, reliability and latency with these upgrades, there may initially be slight hiccups with the network upgrade and optimisation. This should however not be a long term concern according to Vodacom.

The full network migration will take around two years.
