Telkom suspends executive

FMTech yesterday reported that Telkom has confirmed that it has suspended group executive for network provisioning, Marius Mostert, pending an investigation.

According to FMTech, Telkom initially refused to comment, but later issued a statement that said that ‘Mostert has been placed on special leave’.

Previous media reports suggested that Mostert was involved in an allegedly corrupt tender process last year for a point-to-point microwave system which was awarded to Telsaf Data and Ericsson.

According to Business Times both Mostert and Telkom CEO Reuben September pushed for Ericsson to win the tender and even suggested that “senior directors at Telkom altered documents to influence who won its tenders.”

At the time Telkom said that it was satisfied with the process it followed, but it now seems that the process was not as thorough and above board as initially suggested.

The full report and Telkom’s official feedback regarding Mostert’s suspension is available on FMTech.
