ICASA councilor selection to continue today

The Parliamentary Portfolio Committee recently shortlisted nine candidates for the vacant Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) councilor position, selected from 86 CVs which were received.

The candidates include Josephine Mabotja, David Vannucci, Dillo Lehlokoe, Zandile Mxaku, Edmund Baloyi, Luthando Mkumatela, Mthobeli Zokwe, William Stucke and Khulile Bogwana.

The Democratic Alliance’s Niekie van den Berg, Shadow Minister of Communications, said that he had focussed on the technical skills of candidates and asked the Committee to reconsider William Stucke, “as the candidate had impressive technical skills.”

The current ICASA Council is not known for its strong technical skills, and a technical person like Stucke will increase the capacity of the regulator to address certain complicated technical matters at council level.

Members and the Parliamentary Committee are expected to hear from the candidates today after which a final decision is anticipated.

Who do you think should be the new ICASA Councilor?
