SABC to shut five foreign bureaux offices
Its offices in China, Senegal, Belgium, Brazil and one of two in New York would be closed.
SABC board deputy chair Phi Mtimkulu said: “The approved budget for the bureaux for this financial year is just under R37 million.
If however the news bureaux had continued, it is projected that spending for the year would have been R60 million in excess of budget.
“With the closures, including the cost related to shutting these down, we will save a minimum of R7 million for this year. The major benefit however will be felt in the next financial year when the revision of strategy will result in savings of at least R32.5 million.”
