iBurst nails existing subscribers
iBurst recently reduced the price of its wireless broadband packages, but existing subscribers are not lucky enough to automatically qualify for the discounted rates.
Old vs new
The new packages – which include a 1 GB package for R 199, a 3 GB package for R449 and a 10 GB package for R 999 – are significantly cheaper than many of the company’s previous offerings.
Existing iBurst ‘Addict’ package subscribers, who currently pay R 1099 for 9.5 GB, would be well advised to migrate to the new 10 GB package retailing at R 999.
The same goes for other existing iBurst subscribers:
- ‘Playa’ subscribers can get 500 MB for R 149 instead of their current 400 MB for R 195.00
- ‘Giga’ subscribers can get 1 GB for R 199 instead of their current R 369 for 1.2 GB
- ‘Pro’ subscribers can get 3 GB for R 449 instead of their current R 529 for 2.5 GB
- ‘Xtreme’ subscribers can get 5 GB for R 599 instead of their current R 899 for 6.5 GB
It makes sense for existing iBurst subscribers to migrate to the new packages since there is a significant cost savings involved.
No automatic migrations
iBurst has taken the decision to not move existing subscribers over to their new, more affordable offerings.
The company stated that current subscribers will not be automatically shifted to the new packages, adding that existing customers wanting to change their subscription to one of the new packages will need to contact iBurst.
Those subscribers who are savvy enough to send a request through to migrate to the new cheaper packages are however in for a nasty surprise.
Pay to migrate
Any migration which involves a price reduction is subject to a levy of R 199.00 for this privilege. This ‘migration charge’ is only applicable to customers moving to a cheaper package.
iBurst’s decisions to not automatically pass savings on to their existing subscribers and then charge them to qualify for these savings may not go down well with their long-time supporters.
iBurst was asked for comment regarding this issue, but did not provide any feedback by the time of publication.
