Neotel connects Durban
“Today marks a significant milestone in our journey to redefine the way in which South Africans connect. The Durban launch means that we have now reached our initial goal to launch consumer services in the five major metropolis in South Africa” says Ajay Pandey, MD and CEO of Neotel.
“Our enterprise business has grown from strength to strength in terms of customer base and we have increased the solutions offered in our quest to consistently improve solutions provided to our clients.”
He says the impact of the organization redefining the telecommunications industry is becoming very evident. “We are consistently delivering on the promise of innovation and superior customer service through our technology and our personalized approach to meeting our customers’ needs, the future success of Neotel is very clear.”
“We were contracted to connect 44 of the FET institutions in KwaZulu-Natal and the majority of these are already connected which has considerably enhanced their access to information” says Pandey.
“This, as well as our role in bringing international access through the SEACOM cable which will be landed at Mthunzini on the KwaZulu-Natal north coast, and now our bringing consumer services to the province, clearly shows our commitment to the region.”
Pandey says that Neotel has made a firm commitment to the South African market to take communications to all South Africans and to ultimately make services available across the country.
“We are building a next generation wireless network for South Africans, a process which takes time,” he says.
Neotel’s rollout of services has been done in a phased approach. “We officially launched consumer services at the end of May in Pretoria and Johannesburg, have launched in Cape Town and are now ready to bring these services to the citizens of the greater Durban area.”
He says that while coverage will initially be limited in this region, the network is expanding at a rapid pace as demonstrated in Gauteng.
NeoConnect, Neotel’s consumer offering which is provided using CDMA2000 1x EV-DO technology is a converged platform all-in-one consumer service – ‘one wireless service, one bill, one product that allows the consumer high speed internet access, to make voice calls and send and receive SMS’.
“We have received a warm welcome from South African consumers with our initial offering which we feel addresses South Africans latent and expressed needs,” says Mukul Sharma, Executive Head of the Consumer Business Unit at Neotel.
“Since our launch in May this year we have been listening closely to the customer’s feedback and we are responding accordingly. We are currently developing further products which are designed to directly address the needs which have been expressed in the feedback and will be launching these later in the year,” he says.
Neotel will in future bring to the South African consumer Wimax products as well as fiber to the home.
Neotel will be launching its advertising campaign – which was shot in Durban – which will be seen for the first time across the country in the first week of August.
“The campaign is unique and exciting – very much like our offerings to our customers,” says Pandey. “Without giving too much away and ruining the anticipation, the advertisement captures the essence of what South Africans have been yearning for in a telecommunications provider,” he concludes.
