More secure Wi-Fi hotspot access

Internet Solutions (IS) Wi-Fi customers will in future enjoy secured wireless Internet access following the launch of AlwaysOnSecure.

AlwaysOnSecure uses a 256-bit encryption key to provide secure Wi-Fi access to IS AlwaysOn Wi-Fi customers.

To make use of this service IS AlwaysOn Wi-Fi customers will need to register on the AlwaysOnSecure landing page using their valid username and password, which will generate a unique encryption key.

“This unique AlwaysOnSecure encryption key is dynamically adjusted every few minutes, offering the highest level of security available on any network, even exceeding the security capabilities offered by most wired networks,” says Justin Spratt, HotSpot Business Unit Manager at IS. “With this encryption key users can then connect to the AlwaysOnSecure Wi-Fi network.”

Spratt explains that IS AlwaysOn Wi-Fi customers will soon have access to two wireless networks at all AlwaysOn enabled venues.

“In future, when users log-on they will have access to an ‘Internet’ and ‘AlwaysOnSecure’ network,” he says. “The Internet network is an open Wi-Fi network that requires no network encryption key whereas the AlwaysOnSecure network is totally secured by the network encryption key.” Spratt does point out that both credit card transactions and login credentials on both these networks are secure.

The rollout of the AlwaysOnSecure encrypted network access will start at all major IS AlwaysOn HotSpot sites, like hotels and airports, with big retail chains being rolled out in parallel.

“We expect all 600 of our national AlwaysOn HotSpot sites to be AlwaysOnSecure enabled within the next 12 months,” comments Spratt. “We have already trialled the service at a corporate customer site and the user experience has been great.

“The registration process is straightforward and a detailed online guide is available to help all current IS AlwaysOn Wi-Fi customers to connect to the AlwaysOnSecure network,” continues Spratt.

“Registration and activation is a once off process, so once completed customers will always connect to the AlwaysOnSecure network when it is available. This value added service will ensure IS customers enjoy peace of mind with secure Internet connectivity at all AlwaysOn enabled venues in future. We would therefore like to encourage all IS AlwaysOn Wi-Fi users to register for this service via the landing page to secure their Wi-Fi connectivity,” he concludes.
