The volume of ADSL traffic in South Africa has increased by 41.9% to over 27 Petabytes (PB). This is according to Telkom’s interim results for the six months ending 30 September 2014.
According to the results, ADSL traffic is up from almost 20PB in September 2013.
This significant growth in data traffic is far greater than the growth in Telkom’s ADSL subscriber base, which saw a year-on-year increase of 7.4% from 898,203 to 965,046 connections.
Telkom also saw a 9.1% increase in retail Internet subscribers across its ADSL, ISDN, and WiMAX products.
Growth in Telkom’s ADSL and Internet users between September 2013 and 2014 came despite a 4.9% drop in fixed line customers.
The decrease brought the number of Telkom fixed line subscribers in South Africa to 3,531,000. This is lower than the number of fixed line users Telkom had in 1994 (3,594,000).
