Cheaper ADSL service here soon: ISPs

South African Internet service providers are preparing to launch a new, more affordable 1Mbps ADSL service soon.

This follows an announcement by Telkom Wholesale that it had launched two additional speed offerings – which will form part of the existing Resell DSL product portfolio – 1Mbps and 8Mbps.

Retail pricing for Telkom’s 1Mbps and 8Mbps ADSL services has not been announced, but wholesale prices (Ex VAT) are below R50 and R300 respectively.

Axxess has recently added its 1Mbps ADSL line speed option for R55 per month.

MWEB said it will launch 1Mbps and 8Mbps ADSL products on 1 September 2015. The company will announce pricing later this week.

Web Africa said it expects to launch its new ADSL products very soon. “Our prices have not been finalised yet, but they will be pretty competitive,” said Web Africa’s Greg Wright.

Cybersmart CEO Laurie Fialkov said they will launch 1Mbps and 8Mbps products. He could not immediately confirm pricing, but expects to do so in the coming weeks.
