Major Afrihost ADSL outage

ADSL users in Cape Town, East London, Port Elizabeth, and the surrounding areas have reported being unable to connect to the Internet.

Multiple reports are coming from Afrihost and Axxess subscribers, with some saying that accounts from other ADSL service providers are working.

According to the reports, ADSL is establishing line sync, but subscribers are unable to authenticate to their provider.

A network notice on Afrihost’s website confirms the issue, but no details about the cause of the problem have been revealed.

“We are working with our upstream providers to find the cause,” said Afrihost.

“Affected clients may be unable to get online until the problem is resolved. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.”

In a subsequent update, Afrihost said its team is working with MTN to resolve the authentication problem for Mobile and DSL users in the region.

“We currently do not have an [estimated time to repair] but would like to assure clients that all available resources are being employed for a fast resolution.”

Update – 17h40: Afrihost has said that a network issue affecting the IP Connect links and the core network in the Southern region has been found, which is why both DSL and Mobile are affected.

Update – 20h18: Afrihost has said that the problem has been resolved.
