IS ADSL backbone back online

Users with ADSL accounts from Internet Service Providers (ISPs) that use Internet Solutions (IS) as their upstream provider – including Afrihost and Axxess – reported this afternoon that they couldn’t access certain international sites, with other sites loading slowly.

This downtime came after a recent outage on the SEACOM undersea cable, leading many to think that the problem could be on the cable system. However, SEACOM responded to a tweet from a user, saying that they weren’t experiencing any problems this afternoon.

Afrihost’s website reports that IS engineers were attending to the problem and director Greg Payne said at around 18:00 today that the issue has been resolved.

“Afrihost’s upstream provider, Internet Solutions, had a problem on their backbone this afternoon,” Payne said.

“We are awaiting further information from IS as to the cause of the problem.”
