Altech TC’s ADSL pricing unveiled

Altech Technology Concepts (ATC) recently announced that it has built its own network to address performance and reliability issues and offer businesses a range of ‘high quality telecommunications products and services.’

ATC has provisioned equal capacity on two international cable systems, namely SAT-3 and Seacom, and has further negotiated multiple local peering agreements.

ATC CEO Wayne de Nobrega said that they focus strongly on the quality of their network, and while they aim to provide competitively priced offerings using this new network, quality and reliability take precedence over dropping prices to as low as possible.

New ADSL offerings

ATC is already putting its network to good use, and has recently launched new consumer and business ADSL packages.

They have launched four types of services:  capped ADSL for consumers, capped ADSL for business, uncapped ADSL for consumers, uncapped ADSL for business.

All four of these services are in turn offered in Gold and Platinum varieties where traffic on the Platinum service enjoys a higher priority than the Gold offering.

The following table provides an overview of traffic priority on ATC’s ADSL network:

Service Description Network Priority Level
ADSL Capped – business Platinum 1
ADSL Capped – business Gold 2
ADSL uncapped – business Platinum 3
ADSL uncapped – business Gold 4
ADSL Capped – consumer Platinum 5
ADSL Capped – consumer Gold 6
ADSL uncapped – consumer Platinum 7
ADSL uncapped – consumer Gold 8

De Nobrega explained that all services will perform the same during periods with low traffic levels but during peak traffic, services with a higher network priority level will enjoy preference – hence resulting in better performance.

De Nobrega added that they are up-front about the fact that they heavily shape Peer-to-Peer (P2P) traffic on their ADSL network with the aim of ensuring high service levels and creating a predictable bandwidth utilization environment.

Pricing

ATC’s ADSL pricing is competitive on both capped and uncapped offerings, and particularly aggressive on the consumer Gold products with pricing of below R20 per GB.
