Say goodbye to your Afrihost Free Time ADSL data

Afrihost has announced that it will stop its Free Time data promotion on 31 January 2017.

Free Time offered Afrihost capped DSL customers 18 hours of unlimited data every day.

“The good news is that even though you will no longer get the full Free Time of 18 hours, you will still get 8 hours of free Internet from midnight to 08:00 every day on your Capped package,” said Afrihost.

Afrihost launched Free Time in August 2016, with the intention of running it for three months.

“We secretly hoped that based on usage and new sign-ups we’d find some way to be able to offer it forever.”

Unfortunately, Afrihost’s usage and network costs “increased dramatically” after the promotion launched and the company did not sign up as many new clients as hoped.

Many clients also downgraded their packages.

“It is simply not possible to keep offering 18 hours of Free Time on top of the already low prices we charge per GB,” said Afrihost.

Afrihost ended its Free Time ADSL promotion for certain customers on 31 December 2016, keeping the service open to those with a capped data package priced at R299 per month or higher.

The announcement followed a decision to extend its Free Time promotion to the end of December. It was scheduled to end on 30 November.

Capped clients will continue to automatically receive their 8 hours of free data from 1 February.
