MWEB cuts uncapped ADSL prices
MWEB has cut the price of its 1Mbps uncapped ADSL data accounts from R299 per month to R199 per month. MWEB Business is reducing the price of its business uncapped 1Mbps service from R986 per month to R799 per month.
The price of MWEB’s 384kbps uncapped ADSL accounts has also been dropped to R199 from the previous R219. MWEB will further offer a free upgrade to 1Mbps to all of their data-only uncapped 384Kbps ADSL customers.
The fact that MWEB’s 384kbps and 1Mbps uncapped ADSL accounts will now cost the same may surprise consumers, but MWEB ISP CEO Derek Hershaw said that it is in-line with their aim to make 1Mbps Uncapped ADSL the new entry level uncapped product in South Africa.
“MWEB has made the call to use the 30 percent cut in Telkom’s IP Connect (IPC) pricing to continue enhancing its Tier 1 network and to make 1Mbps Uncapped ADSL the ‘best internet deal in South Africa’ by dropping the price on that product to just R199 per month,” said Hershaw.
“We would like to see 1Mbps uncapped packages become the new entry level product for local Internet users,” said Hershaw.
“In the interests of growing fixed-line broadband in SA we look forward to a formal announcement from Telkom to say they’re upgrading all 384Kbps lines to 1Mbps at no extra cost to the end-user,” Hershaw concluded.
The new MWEB pricing will be available immediately to all new customers, while existing MWEB subscribers will be automatically upgraded from 1 June 2012.
