ADSL problems explained

Over the last week many ADSL users have reported slow throughput and packet loss using Telkom’s ADSL service.  The problems on the ADSL network were confirmed by Telkom, saying that two separate incidents were responsible for the service deterioration.

According to Telkom the international connectivity problems experienced by ADSL subscribers between 19 January and 21 January were caused by problems with the onward bandwidth ring from Sesimbra.  This problem was resolved early on 21 January.

Telkom said that another unrelated problem with connectivity to Hong Kong was to blame for performance issues on 23 January.  The exact reason for this problem is not known yet, but the service was fully restored early on Friday.
