Telkom capped ADSL value boost: ISPs respond
Telkom Internet announced that its capped ADSL account holders will get free anytime data for specific social networking services, and zero rated data between 00:00 and 06:00 daily.
Telkom Internet will also double the monthly usage limit of all its data packages of 5GB or more free of charge.
The Telkom Internet ADSL promotion, which runs from 1 September 2013 to 31 March 2014, puts pressure on competing Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to respond.
However, with margins already razor thin in the ADSL market, it can be challenging for service providers to match Telkom Internet’s offer.
Here is what South Africa’s prominent ISPs said about their plans following Telkom Internet’s announcement.
MWEB ISP CEO Derek Hershaw
MWEB ISP CEO Derek Hershaw said that they have no immediate plans to change anything related to their capped ADSL products.
“We recently upgraded all our 3Gig capped customers to 5Gigs, at no extra cost and this was a permanent upgrade, not a promotional offer,” said Hershaw.
Afrihost CEO Gian Visser
Afrihost CEO Gian Visser said that they are always looking to add real value to their capped ADSL clients.
“It is our aim to bring the most affordable ADSL to our clients and to make sure we lead the charge in ensuring cheaper broadband for South Africa,” said Visser.
“We will definitely be adding even more value to our capped ADSL products very soon,” said Visser.
Openweb CEO Keoma Wright
Openweb CEO Keoma Wright said that they are currently re-looking their capped ADSL solutions, and will make an announcement about their plans soon.
Cybersmart CEO Laurie Fialkov
Cybersmart CEO Laurie Fialkov said that their subscribers can expect far better value for money from them in October.
“Users will be able to supersize any capped account, which give them far higher data caps” Fialkov said.
