South African bank employee arrested for loading fake notes into ATM
An Mpumalanga bank employee accused of loading fake notes into ATMs was arrested by the Hawks in Groblersdal on Tuesday.
Hawks spokesperson Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said the 30-year-old suspect was responsible for loading money into the ATMs, but would only load half of the cash.
He allegedly then loaded counterfeit notes and kept the genuine notes for himself.
“The bank eventually discovered his shenanigans after he had already stolen an amount of R2 217 260,” Mulaudzi said in a statement.
The man is expected to appear in the Groblersdal Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.
