Samsung Pay launching in South Africa

Samsung South Africa is testing Samsung Pay and plans to launch it later this year.

Samsung Pay is a payment platform that comes with the company’s smartphones, allowing users to authorise payments wirelessly using near field communication technology.

News that Samsung is launching Pay in South Africa comes after it added support for PayPal as a payment method.

To use PayPal with Samsung Pay, users add their PayPal account to the app – after which they can spend their balance.

The company said the partnership lets merchants using Braintree Direct integrate Samsung Pay as a payment method.

Samsung said PayPal support will be available for all Samsung Pay users in the US and will expand to other countries soon.
