American Express is eliminating the requirement for merchants to collect signatures for transactions from April 2018.
The global move will provide a more simplified checkout experience for merchants and card holders.
It is also set to speed up the process of paying in-store and help reduce merchants’ operating expenses associated with retaining signatures.
The need for signatures has declined around the world, due to advancements in the payments industry.
This includes the growth of contactless payment options, including mobile tap-and-pay methods and the global adoption of EMV chip technology.
American Express has also deployed machine-learning algorithms to detect fraud.
