FNB’s new rules for hitting eBucks Level 5

FNB has made it slightly more difficult for Premier customers to reach eBucks Reward Level 5 from 1 July 2024.

Along with account and transaction pricing changes, the bank is updating its eBucks earning rules from next month.

FNB has made only minor alterations to the rules that have been in effect since August 2023.

The eBucks Reward Level determines the amount of eBucks a customer gets back when spending money on various products and services.

For Premier customers, the 11,000 ranking points needed to reach Level 5 have remained the same.

However, the bank has scrapped two criteria that could previously earn Premier customers a combined 2,500 ranking points with minimal effort.

It also slashed the maximum tier points for maintaining a good credit rating in half — from 1,000 to 500.

In addition, the minimum deposit and balance amounts to earn tier points on money put into savings and investment accounts increased by R200.

The only reward tiering rule that has become easier is that customers can deposit R3,000 less into their main account than before.

However, the maximum number of points they can earn by meeting this requirement has remained 2,000.

The table below summarises the key eBucks Rewards level points changes, effective from 1 July 2024.

MyBroadband determined which tiering criteria are easiest to achieve, starting with those that don’t carry additional costs.

We found that 10,000 tiering points could easily be accumulated through simple payment habits or app actions.

The easiest is to ensure you check the “Track my Rewards” section, set up and check three smart budget categories every month and view your net worth or credit status, and make as many in-person and online payments as possible with a virtual card.

An additional 2,500 to 3,500 points are up for grabs with some spending or extra effort in payment habits.

The table below summarises some of the easiest tiering criteria to meet to reach eBucks Reward Level 5.
