FNB removes new eBucks rule

FNB has removed one of the new rules that was introduced for its eBucks customers and will backdate the earning of eBucks for those affected.
The rule, which states that cheque card customers who still wanted to earn eBucks needed to make sure that their qualifying cheque card swipes exceeded their monthly ATM cash withdrawals, has been removed, said Jolandé Duvenage, eBucks CEO.
Duvenage told Moneyweb that FNB is constantly monitoring all the rules that it put in place and will review them if necessary.
She said that from time to time the rules will change, usually once a year, to ensure that the win-win relationship for the rewards programme is maintained.
One of the other rules that met with some criticism was where customers needed to give FNB permission to contact them for marketing purposes in order to remain eligible for earning eBucks.
Duvenage admitted that some customers were worried that once permission was granted, it would be abused.
She said that the intention was never to spam customers with new offerings, but rather to have a communications channel to inform customers of rewards and value. The rule remains in place.
Duvenage said that even with the new rules FNB will pay out more in eBucks this year than last year’s R500m. She argued that this was not just simply because there were now more eBucks customers, but because the rewards were “richer”.
