FNB app launches for Windows Phone 8

FNB has launched its popular banking app on Windows 8 phones, available for download as of today (31 October 2013).

Anyone with a Windows 8 phone can download the FNB Banking App for Windows 8 phone, but you need to be an FNB customer to make full use of the traditional banking services.

On Wednesday (30 October) Hypertext reported that the absent Windows Phone application would be coming within “days not weeks”, citing Mark Strathmore, Head of Developer Ecosystem for Nokia South & East Africa, who tweeted images of the application running on a Nokia Lumia device.

In June 2012, it was reported that FNB was developing a dedicated banking app for the Windows Phone 7 platform. In September of that year, the bank said that it would look at developing the app for Windows Phone 8, instead.

The bank’s app eventually launched on the Windows 8 platform for tablets, but remained absent from Windows Phone.

Former head of FNB Connect ISP and Business Operations, Farren Roper explained the app’s absence at the time by noting that the bank would only consider a Windows Phone app if there was enough demand for it.
