FNB has expanded its digital banking services into Africa by launching and integrating its banking app and online banking services into its subsidiaries on the continent.
Outside South Africa, FNB currently has operations in Zambia, Namibia, Botswana, Swaziland, Lesotho, Tanzania and Mozambique.
According to FNB, its Banking App has already seen an uptake of over 4,200 active users, with over 8,800 active users banking on the bank’s .Mobi platform.
In South Africa, FNB’s banking app is used by over 600,000 users, the bank reported.
“Global trends indicate that Apps and digital in Africa should not be ignored. We foresee that eventually as supply increases and prices of smart devices fall that more people will have access to these devices to be able to transact using our digital channels,” says Michael Kloeck, Head of Expansion, FNB Mobile and Connect.
“We see this as a step in the right direction and preparation for the future of Banking in Africa.”
African smartphone bankers will now have access to FNB’s eWallet service, free messages and calls between app users as well as the bank’s cashless person-to-person payment service, GeoPayments.
