A number of Absa customers have taken to social media to complain about the bank’s Internet services being down, including its website, online banking system, and mobile application.
“Thank you Absa its the end of the month again and again the website hanging,” Marius Carstens posted on the bank’s Facebook wall.
“Your website is seriously unstable. I’ve had problems everyday for the last week,” Jean-Michel Koenig told the bank on Twitter.
Responding to complaints, the bank’s social media team told clients that its “techies are all over a fix” and promised services would be restored soon.
Absa was contacted for comment on the downtime but did not immediately respond by the time of publication.
At the time of writing and publication ABSA’s Internet banking services were down, but have since been restored. However, as at 11:44 on Friday, 31 January 2014, the Absa website remained down.

Absa is aware of the interruptions that online customers have experienced during the course of today. We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience this technical problem has caused. Our engineers are currently working to remedy the situation.
