Rain has unveiled its Black Friday 2019 special, where clients get a free Huawei 5G CPE – which cost users R3,450 when the service was launched – with a new Rain 5G subscription.
This means that new Rain 5G subscribers will not pay any upfront fees when they sign up.
Rain officially launched its 5G service on 11 November, offering unlimited data at speeds of up to 700Mbps at R1,000 per month.
Rain’s 5G service is currently available in areas in Johannesburg and Tshwane – where it has around 250 towers – with an estimated 500,000 households in the coverage area.
During 2020, Rain hopes to expand the network to Cape Town and Durban, and in due course cover all of metropolitan South Africa with 2,000 live 5G sites.
There is only one product available: Rain unlimited data for R1,000 per month with a Huawei 5G CPE Pro router.
The 5G special follows shortly after Rain launched an online RICA process for clients.
Rain’s chief marketing officer Khaya Dlanga told MyBroadband that new Rain customers can visit the company’s website and follow three easy steps to activate their SIM.

The terms and conditions for Rain’s Unlimited 5G for Home states that it is sold as a 24-month contract, after which customers have the option to continue on a month-to-month basis.
If customers are not satisfied with their Unlimited 5G for Home product they are able to cancel within one month from delivery of their 5G CPE, provided the device is returned undamaged and in the original packaging. In this case, the customer will be issued with a full refund.
Following this one-month period, customers will be able to cancel their Rain 5G contract at any time, subject to a termination fee which depends on how many months they have been subscribed to the service.
They will also need to return the 5G Huawei CPE in the same condition as they received it, with Rain stating that ownership of the device remains with the company at all times.
“If you do not return the device, or you return the device but it is damaged and requires repair, you will be liable for the cost of repairing and/or replacing the device,” Rain said.
“The replacement cost will be the cost at which Rain procures the device, which is currently R5,500.”
