Black Friday is just a few hours away, and numerous South African retailers, online stores, mobile networks, and service providers are offering massive discounts on tech and other items.

Some South African businesses have been offering month-long deals on their products. However, some have stayed true to the traditional Black Friday approach — a one-day sales event with big deals.

Black Friday 2023 falls on Friday, 24 November. However, three shoppers had already spent between R500,000 and R700,000 each the day before the sales event, according to payments provider Ozow’s Black Friday dashboard.

The largest single transaction on the day last year was nearly R1.9 million. However, it should be noted that the shopper was a Standard Bank commercial client and likely bought discounted items for business purposes.

One customer spent R800,000 in a single transaction, while the highest total amount paid by one customer across all banks was R1.3 million.
