Big Black Friday tech deals for South Africa

Major South African distributors and online stores have confirmed plans to offer significantly discounted prices on tech products during this year’s Black Friday shopping period.

Online shopping activity has boomed in South Africa in the past few years.

World Wide Worx’s Online Retail in South Africa 2024 study found that online retail sales values grew 29% to R71 billion in 2023.

That came on the back of a previous jump of 35% from 2021 to 2022.

A part of the increase has been due to the rapidly growing popularity of international giants like Temu and Shein.

However, there is no shortage of agile local e-commerce players offering excellent online shopping platforms, high-quality aftersales service, numerous payment methods, and fast delivery.

Many of these are gearing up to satisfy South African tech lovers’ appetites for digital checkouts during Black Friday 2024, the year’s biggest shopping promotion.

Among them is major technology distributor First Technology, which sells to both businesses and end-users.

First Technology e-commerce general manager Wayne Panaino told MyBroadband that its First Shop online store would offer one of its biggest Black Friday campaigns yet.

The offers will include exclusive deals on a wide range of tech, including laptops, desktops, monitors, gaming gear, and PC components.

“Our goal is to provide both business and consumer clients with unbeatable offers,” the company said.

“Shoppers can expect significant savings on top brands like Dell, HP, Lenovo, ASUS, Samsung, Epson, Logitech and more.”

Panaino added that First Shop will have massive discounts on high-performance laptops, AI-ready laptops, ultra-fast SSDs, graphics cards, gaming components, and high-resolution monitors.

“Additionally, we’ll have limited ‘doorbuster’ deals available for early-bird customers,” he said.

As part of the sales event, selected products will also come with extended warranties, free shipping, and the option to spread payments through instalments with select partners.

“We’re also preparing exclusive bundle deals, allowing customers to purchase tech packages at even greater savings,” Panaino said.

First Shop’s deals will run from Monday, 25 November, through to Cyber Monday on 2 December 2024.

“We’ll have different deals dropping throughout the week to keep the excitement going and give customers more opportunities to score fantastic bargains,” the company said.

Big TV deals

Another prominent online retailer participating in Black Friday 2024 is Teljoy, which will be offering up to 40% off on several categories such as laptops, TVs, and gaming.

“Teljoy is concluding deals with big-name brands as we speak, to bring the best product offering to consumers during the Black Friday period,” said Teljoy marketing manager Michelle Steyn.

“Consumers can look forward to TV deals from R279 per month with a TV licence included on all TVs, as well as free delivery on all Teljoy products,” said Teljoy marketing manager Michelle Steyn.

Teljoy’s Teljoy’s Black Friday deals will run over the entire November 2024.

Steyn recommended customers be quick to check out the deals as they move fast during the Black Friday period.

“All Teljoy products will be marked down during this period, so don’t wait till the last week,” said Steyn.

One of Teljoy’s standout offerings is a rent-to-own model, which makes it more affordable for customers to pay off devices in the short term.

For the tough tech users

Rugged SA also confirmed that it would be participating in Black Friday, promising incredible deals that will stun customers.

“From combo deals that bundle favourite products to below-cost unboxed deals on top-tier tech and massive discounts on must-have gadgets, we’ll have something for everyone,” said Rugged SA marketing manager Zoey Fourie.

The online retailer is especially well known for its extensive range of rugged smartphones, laptops, and tablets, designed for the most merciless users.

It also sells backup energy products, scanners, and desktop PCs.

In addition to its deals, Rugged SA is offering exclusive opportunities to earn coupons or double points on its loyalty system, while also running several giveaways.

Fourie advised interested shoppers to follow the retailer on social media to stay in the loop and be the first to know about its offers.
