Black Friday plans for Apple in South Africa

While no Apple resellers have revealed their Black Friday promotions yet, Digicape has told MyBroadband that it will be running deals on Apple products.

Black Friday will fall on 29 November this year, and Digicape says customers can expect deals on plenty of Apple products.

“We will definitely be running Black Friday specials on Apple products as well as third-party accessories,” Digicape managing director Gaynor MacArthur told MyBroadband.

“Unfortunately, the specials will only be shared once we go live. We encourage customers to subscribe to our mailing list to receive these updates via email as soon as they become available.”

Digicape is an authorized Apple reseller in South Africa and offers a wide range of Apple products.

Last year, Digicape offered Black Friday deals on several Apple laptops, iPhones, iPads, and Apple Watches.

Customers could purchase a MacBook Pro 16-inch M2 chip, a Thule sleeve for R56,999, a MacBook Air 15-inch M2, and an Adames Elements hub for R28,999.

The largest discounts tend to be on the more expensive products, such as MacBooks and iPhones, whereas discounts for Apple Watches and iPads are lower.

In the past, discounts have also been offered on Airpods, Homepods, smart toys and gadgets, and Vodacom and Telkom contract deals.

Apple has also launched a host of new devices over the past few months, such as the iPhone 16, iPad Mini sixth generation, and Apple Watch Series 10.

This means that earlier models are likely to go on sale — provided there is unsold inventory.

Many South Africans plan ahead for Black Friday, looking for great specials on items they have been eyeing all year, whether expensive electronics or household items and groceries.

As a result, spending on the retail event has remained high despite tough economic times.

Ozow’s Black Friday dashboard revealed that one shopper spent R818,000 in a single transaction on Black Friday in 2023.

The company told MyBroadband that the transaction was for a travel package.

Two other customers spent over R400,000 each, with one spending R429,000 through a single transaction and the other spending R405,000 across 24 payments.

According to the transaction dashboard, the average value across all transactions processed through Ozow Instant EFT was R686.62.

Ozow opened its Black Friday dashboard on Thursday, 23 November 2023 — the day before Black Friday, when several South African retailers offered early-access promotions.

By 14:00 on Thursday, the largest single Ozow Instant EFT transaction was R258,000, while three customers had spent more than R500,000 across several transactions each.

Despite the South African public being under strict Covid-19 restrictions, Black Friday 2021 saw the biggest single transaction in the last four years.

On Friday, 26 November 2021, BankservAfrica recorded a R4 million transaction through its 3D-Secure online card authentication service.

The organization found that Black Friday 2021’s total value of transactions was R1 billion, while Cyber Monday, which falls on the first Monday following Black Friday, hit R516 million.

On Black Friday 2022, at least two customers spent more than R1 million in a single transaction, the highest being R1.88 million.

Standard Bank stated that the payment was made by one of its commercial clients.
