Black Friday PC deals in South Africa
Several major online specialist PC hardware retailers in South Africa are participating in Black Friday 2024, of which at least two already launched early sales promotions.
Black Friday presents the ideal opportunity for PC gamers to upgrade their desktops with new graphics cards, memory, storage, or peripherals at good prices.
Wootware has already launched its Woot Warp campaign with four weeks of different specials, which will be followed by “Black Hole Friday” on 29 November 2024.
“We’re committed to providing customers with competitive deals throughout this period and there would be no need to wait for Black Friday,” the Somerset West-based retailer said.
“These deals represent significant value across our product range.”
Wootware said that some customers might hesitate to buy during Woot Warp being under the impression that the discounts will be better on Black Friday itself.
“To address this, we’re offering a price guarantee: if any product purchased during Woot Warp is available at a lower price during our Black Hole Friday sale, we’ll credit the difference to customers who email us,” Wootware said.
The timelines for each week of Woot Warp and Black Hole Friday sales are as follows:
- Week 1: 10:00 on Friday, 1 November, until 09:59 on Friday, 8 November
- Week 2: 10:00 on Friday, 8 November, until 09:59 on Friday, 15 November
- Week 3: 10:00 on Friday, 15 November until Friday, 22 November
- Week 4: 10:00 on Friday, 22 November until 06:59 on Thursday, 28 November
- Black Hole Friday: Starts 19:00 on Thursday, 28 November 2024
Wootware said it was optimistic about sales prospects for Black Friday 2024.
“With our expanded product catalogue and 2024 product launches, we’re anticipating increased traffic and higher sales numbers compared to 2023,” the company said.
Dreamware Tech’s Black Friday promotion will run from Monday, 25 November 2024, until Tuesday, 3 December 2024.
The Durban-based retailer said it was still securing deals, but brands such as Gigabyte, Corsair, and MSI were already confirmed to be participating.
“As for the discounts, they will vary by product, so it’s a bit difficult to say the exact percentages,” the retailer said.
Dreamware Tech explained that Black Friday was generally unpredictable in terms of traffic and sales.
“There are certain years where it performs well and others where it’s notably stagnant.
It attributed this to multiple factors, including the country’s prevailing economic state at the time of the sale and the deals available from distributors.
Another big factor has been general consensus from South Africans who have accepted that Black Friday, in most cases, will never live up to the hype garnered in places such as the US.
“Due to stock holdings being significantly less and clearance of goods seldom deemed a priority for South African retailers, the discounts aren’t as substantial as the 60% to 80% or upwards mark which can be observed in the US,” the retailer said.
Another reputed online PC retailer — Kempton Park-based Progenix — has also launched its Black Friday promotion, dubbed the Pirate’s Bounty Sale.
“We have more than 100 products on promo at the moment, with discounts of up to around 45%,” Progenix said.
Similar to Wootware, new deals drop every Friday in November and are available for week.
Progenix has seen a large increase in sales for the current month compared to last year but said it was too early to definitively state an improvement with this year’s promotion.
The store said it expected to cover most consumers’ needs during the sale.
If it ends up still having Black Friday stock left over after November, this will also be available at reduced prices.
Another store which sells computer parts that previously confirmed to MyBroadband that they would be offering Black Friday deals is First Shop.
First Shop’s Black Friday offers will be available from Monday, 25 November, through to Cyber Monday on 2 December 2024.
It will include discounts of up to 45% on brands such as Asus, Dell, HP, Lenovo, Samsung, and Logitech.
