Best Amazon Black Friday deals shipping to South Africa

Amazon.com launched its Black Friday 2024 sale on Thursday, and plenty of tech products were selling at deeply discounted prices on the first day of the promotion.

The e-commerce giant will be offering millions of deals across more than 35 categories, including electronics, home, beauty, and fashion, from 21 November to 29 November 2024.

Amazon said its tech deals will include items discounted to less than half their regular price.

Many of these items can be shipped directly to South Africa via one of Amazon’s international logistics partners, typically Aramex or DHL.

While Amazon launched a South African marketplace in May 2024, its US store offers a much wider range of products and often has substantially more affordable prices than at local outlets.

The important thing to be aware of is that many of these items will qualify as parallel imports, which means they will not enjoy the same warranty coverage as when purchased locally via official distributor channels.

However, Amazon.com generally offers good return policies and even has some products eligible for free international returns if your hardware is defective.

MyBroadband scoured the electronics section of Amazon.com’s Black Friday 2024 sale to compile a list of 10 of the best tech deals in the early hours of the promotion.

Keenly aware that discount percentages can be deceiving due to inflated listing prices, we ensured that the prices of the products were lower than their most affordable option locally.

We found that computer processors, headphones, speakers, laptops, and storage devices were among the most heavily discounted items.

Many AMD and Intel processors were selling for a song compared to local PC hardware retailers.

For example, the Intel Core i9-13900KF was priced at $450.56 (R8,188), with shipping, taxes, and delivery included.

At the time of publication, this highly overclockable chip was well over R10,000 from South African stores.

Those looking for a more affordable but nonetheless powerful chip can pick up the AMD Ryzen 5 5700X for $167.60 (R3,046) for over R1,000 cheaper than local prices.

On Amazon.co.za, this processor was selling fro R4,259 at the time of publication.

Western Digital’s C50 1TB Expansion Card for the Xbox Series X|S was also over R2,000 cheaper than from major local retailers.

Adventurers or fitness enthusiasts in the market for a highly capable off-the-grid smartwatch can buy the Garmin Fenix 7 Pro Sapphire Solar for $789.80 (R14,324), over R5,000 less than locally.

In matters of taxes

Another product category that also had really good offers was computer monitors.

However, South Africa’s import duties on these devices are hefty, which more than doubles their price tag when combined with shipping fees.

In general, the total price of these monitors will be much higher than when buying them in South Africa, except for some very high-end models.

Fortunately, Amazon.com includes all taxes in its final price, which gives shoppers better peace of mind than when shopping from stores like Shein or Temu, where taxes are only calculated and paid after the order is placed.

That has led to some unpleasant tax surprises for many customers, especially as the South African Revenue Service has not given clear guidance on its new import duties for low-value goods.

Amazon has so much faith in its tax calculations that it will cover the difference if it undercalculated and refund customers if it overestimated taxes.
