Black Friday 2024 is here, and many online retailers in South Africa are offering significant deals on tech products, including TVs, gaming products, smartphones, and many more.
MyBroadband looked for the best Black Friday tech deals available to shoppers in South Africa.
The sales event generally sees some big spenders. On Black Friday 2023, BankservAfrica recorded 1.4 million transactions through its online 3D-secure service, totalling R1.39 billion.
Meanwhile, in-store swipes amounted to R3.1 billion.
Online transaction volumes increased by 11% in 2023 compared to 2022, while the value of online transactions grew by 39% year over year.
This came with a significant reduction in in-store spending.
Shergeran Naidoo, head of stakeholder engagement at BankservAfrica, noted that in-store transaction volumes had declined year-on-year.
“In-store shopping was slightly down from last year’s levels compared to online, which delivered again as merchants upped their Black Friday promotions and attracted interest from eager consumers,” he said.
In-store transaction volumes dropped from 6.3 million in 2022 to 5.9 million in 2023.
In addition to tech deals, companies like Absa, Discovery Bank, and Wetility are also running Black Friday promotions.
Customers who pay for Black Friday deals using their Absa card can earn up to 100% real cash back on the first R1,500 spent in certain categories.
Discovery Bank’s promotion is a competition. It says customers can screenshot a Black Frida deal from a Discovery Miles retail partner and post it on X.
The post must tag @Discovery_SA and include the #HackBlackFriday and #DiscoveryBestBank hashtags. Customers who do this will be entered to win a Black Friday deal valued at R5,000.
Solar energy company Wetility’s promotion will let customers earn up to R3,000 in cashback on its backup energy bundles. Customers will also only pay their first instalment in February 2025.
Wetility will also give customers who refer new shoppers two additional solar panels, a complimentary air fryer, and R1,000 for them and the person they referred.
