Huge Black Friday smartphone deals
South African residents looking to upgrade or replace their smartphones have several Black Friday deals from which to choose, with prices for powerful 4G devices starting as low as R1,799.
Black Friday 2024 is already off to a strong start in South Africa, with Discovery Bank reporting that one of its clients has already spent R187,000 on their card in a single transaction.
Discovery reports that the average in-store trend among its clients is R295, while people’s online spends is much higher — R995.
Takealot remains the top online retail merchant by total card spend value, but Amazon is already in second place even though it only launched its South African marketplace this year.
Payment platform Ozow also recorded one customer making 21 transactions totalling R1.7 million earlier in the week.
Ozow’s Black Friday dashboard tracks purchase data for transactions made via its system. It started tracking spending for the sales event on Tuesday. It resets daily at one minute past midnight.
On Friday morning, the single highest transaction tracked by Ozow’s dashboard was for R100,000.
The highest-spending customer on Black Friday spent R826,000 across 12 transactions, with the next biggest spender spending R321,500 across ten transactions.
With Black Friday in full swing, many shoppers are looking for great deals on electronics.
