Telkom unveils new 100Mbps LTE rollout areas

Telkom today (13 June 2014) announced that it will deliver high speed home LTE connectivity to a host of new suburbs across the country.

The company is also planning to roll out Fibre to the Home (FTTH) connectivity to over twenty South African suburbs before the end of 2014.

“This rollout is a precursor of many exciting prospects that Telkom is working towards,” said Telkom CEO Sipho Maseko.

“With speeds of 100 Mbps on the fibre network and the home LTE network, the concept of the Connected Home becomes a lot more tangible and the possibility for value added services is within reach,” said Maseko.

Maseko also highlighted that Telkom currently has 475,144 active VDSL ports and that 400,000 South African homes can already be supplied with VDSL connectivity with up to 20Mbps and 40 Mbps services.

Telkom already has an extensive LTE network, with 1,183 live sites across the country.

The following new areas will complement the existing LTE network from Telkom Mobile, which is already delivering speeds of up to 100Mbps.
