To successfully achieve leadership in broadband, Telkom has developed an integrated broadband plan which will focus on user behaviour, the value proposition to customers, and using the best technologies.
In a presentation to investors, Telkom COO Brian Armstrong said that Telkom intends to be the broadband leader in South Africa – at home and at work.
Telkom’s broadband plan includes an assessment of demand, network alignment, a go-to-market strategy, targeting gated communities. and improving ISP services.
Through its integrated broadband plan Telkom is aiming to capture a large share of the consumer broadband market. This market is expected to grow to 2.9 million households by 2020.
Armstrong said that Telkom plans to service over 50% of the market with next generation network (NGN) fixed broadband technologies in 2020.
LTE, 3G, and DSL will be used to serve households which are not covered by Telkom’s NGN network.
