Parkview FTTH project chooses Dark Fibre Africa
The Parkview Residents’ Association (PRA) announced in a press release on Wednesday, 5 November 2014, that it had selected Dark Fibre Africa (DFA) as its partner to deliver fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) in Parkview and Greenside East.
DFA will roll out a fibre network capable of delivering Internet connections of up to 1 Gigabit per second (Gbps) to residents and businesses in the area.
“We are delighted that DFA will be providing Parkview residents a high-quality fibre-to-the-home network in Parkview and that leading ISPs will be offering Internet services on an open access network enabling real choice and competition in the suburb,” said Indra de Lanerolle, chairman of ConnectParkview.
“Planning on the network will commence immediately with the aim to complete the fibre installations within four months,” PRA said.
A number of Internet service providers are set to offer services on the network, including Vodacom, Vox Telecom, XDSL, Cybersmart, and Mweb.
In a newsletter sent to Parkview residents, DFA and the PRA said that prices will start at below R600 per month.
“DFA is charging ISPs less than Telkom does to access the network,” the organisations said.
“For less than R1,000 per month you could have a very fast 50Mbps line with a phone, cheaper phone calls, 100GB internet cap per month – enough for a lot of movies – and all with 1GB of mobile data included. This would enable you to drop your phone line altogether (saving R166.50 each month),” they added.
They went on to say they are engaging ISPs who want to offer services on the network and will be able reveal their prices very soon.
