With the increased uptake of smartphones in South Africa, many users are looking for data-centric contracts.
The need for affordable data, instead of voice minutes or SMS messages, was the driving factor behind Telkom’s FreeMe mobile products.
“Data has become the central requirement for most smartphone users, so that is what we have prioritized,” said Telkom Consumer CEO Attila Vitai.
“We have listened to our customers and we know that they are data hungry – so that is what we are giving them.”
It is, however, not only smartphone users who are looking for cheap mobile data. Many South Africans use mobile broadband as their primary method of connecting to the Internet.
This raises the question: Where can consumers get the best deal on mobile broadband data?
The table below answers that question, as we look at the most affordable data-only packages from Vodacom, MTN, Cell C, and Telkom. Red is most expensive and Green is cheapest.
