Big increase in Telkom Mobile subscribers
Telkom has released its Group Interim Results for the six months ended 30 September 2016, which show a huge increase in the number of mobile subscribers over the past year.
The company’s mobile broadband offering has also shown an impressive increase it its subscriber base.
Mobile voice and subscriber revenue increased 30% to R520 million, said Telkom, thanks to the FreeMe range and Deal of the Month campaigns.
“The mobile business recorded strong service revenue… driven by strong customer growth of 42.3% to 3.2 million active customer base,” said Telkom.
“However, the blended ARPU was relatively flat at R89.”
“The mobile business contributed positively to the group EBITDA. This is the first reporting period it has recorded positive EBITDA of R214 million.”
Mobile broadband on the up
Mobile broadband revenue grew 43.2% to R1.0 billion, said Telkom.
This was supported by 2.3 million mobile broadband customers, an increase of 44.5% compared to the prior corresponding period.
“We now have 70.8% of our customer base using data at an average of 2.7GB per customer per month.”
Highlights of Telkom’s mobile performance included:
- Active mobile subscribers: 3,212,499 – up 42.3%
- Prepaid: 2,236,996 – up 41.9%
- Postpaid: 975,503 – up 43.3%
- Mobile sites integrated: 2,777 – up 8.9%
- LTE sites integrated: 1,532 – up 10.9%
- Mobile broadband subscribers: 2,275,513 – up 44.5%
