Telkom considering 20Mbps uncapped broadband?

MWEB last year shook up the ADSL and broadband market when it launched affordable uncapped ADSL services. 

Vox Telecom, Internet Solutions, Afrihost and others launched competing uncapped services within day, but to date Telkom has not joined the ‘uncapped ADSL’ bandwagon.

However, a recent survey suggests that Telkom may well be looking into an uncapped ADSL solution, accompanied by higher speeds and bundled voice minutes.

The online telecoms survey, completed by the ‘e-ELITE Telecoms User Panel’, asked people a variety of questions related to ADSL, broadband pricing and speeds, 8ta contract bundling, IPTV, movies on demand and home surveillance services.

While Telkom was not explicitly mentioned in the survey, the questions pointed strongly towards the fact that the survey was conducted by Telkom. Telkom has also used the services of the e-ELITE Telecoms User Panel in the past to conduct surveys.

Telkom would neither confirm nor deny that the survey originated from them, and the e-Elite Panel contact details provided on their website did not work.

Telkom planning new, better broadband offerings?

Despite the uncertainty regarding the survey the questions give a strong indication that Telkom may be soliciting information to assist it in planning new broadband offerings.

Some of the potential services highlighted in the survey closely resemble the company’s current Do Broadband Closer offering.

When quizzed about the survey, and asked whether Telkom is indeed investigating cheaper, faster and uncapped broadband offerings, company spokesperson Pynee Chetty said that this is strategic company information and can hence not be disclosed.
