Enhanced data carry over from MTN
MTN today launched two carry over features for its data products – one for all Internet packages and recurring internet bundles and another for all once-off internet bundles.
This carry-over extension feature will enable MTN subscribers to carry over their unused internet data for additional months over the term of the contract with a maximum carry over extension of two times the monthly inclusive internet value.
“An MTN subscriber who is on a 2GB internet package for 24 months will now be able to carry over unused data in line with their cap until cancellation of the contract, with a maximum amount of data that is permissible being twice the monthly inclusive value ie.: 4GB in the above example,” MTN explained in a press statement.
If the Internet Package or Bundle size is upgraded or migrated either upwards or downwards, the carry-over cap will automatically be adjusted to the new bundle size.
All actively marketed MTN Internet once-off data bundles, MTN 10MB, 75MB, 300MB, 500MB 1GB, 2GB, purchased from the 31st of May 2011 shall have a maximum once-off purchase limit set to 3GB. This will result in a monthly 3GB maximum carry-over for all unused once-off internet data.
Customers requiring more than 3GB of data per month can load multiple internet bundles as long as they use the bundles before loading additional bundles. With every new once-off bundle that is loaded the maximum carry over period is extended by 2 calendar months from date of purchase.
Said Serame Taukobong, MTN South Africa Chief Marketing Officer: “This internet carry over extension feature is an industry first. It is a response to the growing internet appetite from our customers and is indicative of the unique value proposition that MTN is offering its subscribers. We believe these changes will further strengthen our value proposition, ensure that we remain relevant and deliver products and services that are in line with our customers’ needs.”
Broadband internet subscribers shall have two dedicated accounts sharing one expiry date, namely a package inclusive dedicated account including recurring internet bundles and an account for all once-off purchases.
Taukobong explained that any internet bundle, whether it is a package inclusive, a internet recurring or an once-off ad hoc bundle, will extend the expiry date of the two internet wallets by two calendar months from date of load in any monthly cycle.
“Should a customer use up their entire internet bundle, they will be billed the out of bundle rates until the expiry date of that bundle,” said Taukobong.
If multiple bundle types are loaded in the same period and all the internet bundles are depleted within the expiry date, then the best out of bundle rate of the last recurring, package inclusive or once-off ad hoc internet bundle will be applied.
The out of bundle rate will be valid until the expiry date of the dedicated accounts.
