Best mobile broadband speeds in SA

Summary: 8ta has the best mobile broadband speeds in South Africa, followed by Vodacom, Cell C and MTN

MyBroadband launched its custom Ookla Speed Test server in mid-2011, making it possible for broadband users to test their local and international Internet speeds.

MyBroadband’s speed test differentiates itself from other speed test servers by filtering results based on the connection type and the specific broadband network used in the test (based on accurate IP ranges).

As part of the 2011 Broadband Survey the results from the MyBroadband speed test over the last four months were processed, and the statistics showed some interesting results.

When it came to mobile broadband speeds new entrant 8ta had the highest average download speed with 3,592kbps, followed by Vodacom (3,455kbps), Cell C (2,949kbps) and MTN (2,088kbps).

The following tables show the average broadband speed of the four mobile operators for tests conducted to the Johannesburg server, the London server and then the average results for all tests.
