iBurst uncapped broadband service launched

Summary: iBurst increases the data bundle sizes on their iBurst wireless products, and also launches uncapped products

iBurst today (29 September 2011) unveiled their new iBurst Wireless product range which offers subscribers more bang for their buck.

The new products include an uncapped wireless broadband service for R599 and an uncapped+ service for R879.

The standard iBurst uncapped service has a fair use limit of 1GB per day after which users will be throttled to 256kbps.

The uncapped+service has a fair use limit of 3GB per day after which the user will be throttled to 384kbps. Uncapped+ subscribers will also have the option of a 2Mbps modem instead of the standard 1Mbps modems.

iBurst pointed out that traffic on their network is shaped between 08:00 and 00:00 where services like torrent downloads will be heavily affected.

The company increased the data allowance on their standard data package sizes as follows:

  • 500MB for R49
  • 2GB for R98
  • 5GB for R149
  • 10GB for R198
  • 25GB for R445

All the capped data packages include an additional ‘Midnight 2 Morning’ data allowance (the same amount of data as the data package size which can be used from 00:00 to 08:00).

Malcolm Turnbull, iBurst’s executive head of commercial, said that this offering (unlike many mobile broadband offerings in the market) is not merely a promotion but a standard commercial service.
