MTN launches 2GB prepaid data promotion

MTN announced today (12 March 2012) that they have slashed the price of their 2GB prepaid data bundles from R389 to R189.

This data promotion will be available during March and April 2012.

This bundle is available to PayAsYouGo, TopUp and Contract customers. It can be purchased once-off or on a recurring monthly basis, and comes with a 60 day carry-over period.

Existing MTN 2GB users who already have a bolt-on recurring 2GB bundle will also benefit from the promotion during this period.

“What’s more, once a customer reaches the 2GB cap, they will be informed accordingly via an SMS notification and their further usage will be charged at an ‘out of bundle rate’ of only 19c,” MTN said in a press statement.

This new prepaid data promotion complements MTN’s existing 2GB for R149 contract offering and the company’s 3GB “uncapped” service priced at R289 per month.

It is however up against stiff competition from 8ta’s Go Big prepaid data promotion. 8ta is offering their customers 2GB of prepaid data and 1GB of off-peak data at R149.
