DStv Internet and Showmax bundle launched for R279 per month
MultiChoice has launched a DStv Internet contract bundle that includes 25GB of daytime data, 25GB of night data, and a Showmax Entertainment subscription for R279 per month for 24 months. The price includes the router and SIM.
A regular Showmax Entertainment subscription is R99 per month. Subtracting this from the bundle price yields an effective R7.20 per gigabyte rate, counting only the daytime data.
This represents solid value for money relative to other MTN MVNOs that offer capped fixed LTE, like Afrihost and Axxess, especially considering that the router is included.
MultiChoice launched DStv Internet in September 2021 with MTN as its network partner to provide broadband for those who do not have access to fibre services.
“It’s a simple plug-and-play solution with various packages to choose from — whether it’s just for Internet, or a bundled option for DStv Stream or Showmax,” MultiChoice said.
DStv Internet is a fixed wireless access service that comes with a Wi-Fi router.
Customers can choose from three blended data packages: 50GB, 110GB, and 220GB. Half of each package’s data allotment is set aside for night-time usage between midnight and 05:00.
MultiChoice has also launched a 400GB DStv Internet data package for R469 per month over 24 months.
This includes 400GB of anytime data and may be bundled with DStv Stream Compact, Compact Plus, or Premium for an additional fee.
During its last financial year, DStv Internet customers increased by 90%, and revenues were up 160% year-on-year.
MultiChoice South Africa CEO Marc Jury previously told MyBroadband the appeal of the DStv Internet product was its simplicity and association with the trusted DStv brand.
“South Africans are looking for flexible, no-fuss Internet options, and our fixed-LTE product hits the sweet spot,” he said.
“It’s proving to be a great fit for those wanting reliable Internet and to keep up with their favourite DStv shows.”
DStv Internet also briefly operated as a fibre Internet service provider, but Jury said they paused these sales to focus on fixed-LTE products, as they had proven more popular.
“It’s our most popular product because it’s affordable, easy to set up, and pairs perfectly with DStv subscriptions,” said Jury.
“We know South Africans want value, and fixed-LTE gives them a solid connection without breaking the bank.”
Jury added that MultiChoice would continue to review its DStv Internet offerings as demands shifted.
Regarding its Showmax bundle, Jury said it aligns with their strategy of making premium video entertainment increasingly accessible.
“This builds on MultiChoice’s ongoing mission to make video entertainment even more affordable, regardless of whether customers want to access our variety of great content online or through a dish,” he said.
Showmax said its content highlights this month include Showmax Originals for local fans, including The Mommy Club: Sugar & Spice Reunion, new episodes of Love, Law and Betrayal, the return of Youngins, Brasse Vannie Kaap, and The Fix.
Fans of international content can enjoy episodes of The Penguin fresh from the US, binge Hacks season three, and catch blockbusters like Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, Five Nights at Freddy’s and Monkey Man.
Showmax Premier League mobile, which is available for an additional R69 per month, lets subscribers livestream the English Premier League as well as South Africa’s PSL.
