South African neighbourhoods with the fastest fixed Internet speeds

Residents in the Pretoria suburb of Faerie Glen enjoy the fastest average fixed broadband speeds in South Africa, according to the most recent data from MyBroadband Insights.
Furthermore, nine of the ten neighbourhoods with the fastest average fixed broadband speeds are from Gauteng.
MyBroadband Insights’ latest analysis used data collected by the MyBroadband Speed Test app during the fourth quarter of 2024.
These speed tests were done on the MyBroadband Speed Test app — which makes it easy for South Africans to test their broadband speeds to ensure they get what they pay for.
Whether you want to test your Wi-Fi or mobile connection, you can download the MyBroadband Speed Test app on Android or iOS (or use it through your computer’s browser).
With a single tap, the MyBroadband Speed Test app will provide you with your broadband connection’s download speeds, upload speeds, latency, and signal strength.
MyBroadband Insights used data collected from thousands of fixed internet speed test results over the quarter to determine which areas experience the fastest average network speeds.
This focuses on speed tests that were performed by users over Wi-Fi connections, which would typically be fibre-to-the-home (FTTH), fixed-LTE, or fixed-5G connections.
Based on the results from thousands of speed tests on the MyBroadband Speed Test, we were able to learn which South African neighbourhoods had the fastest average Internet speeds in South Africa.
Faerie Glen in Pretoria boasted the fastest fixed broadband speeds, reaching average download speeds of 84.31Mbps.
Randpark Ridge and Moreleta Park almost tied for second place, with Randpark Ridge achieving average download speeds of 81.25Mbps, a mere 0.01Mbps faster than Moreleta Park.
All three of these neighbourhoods were in the top 10 of the Q3 2024 results, too, showing strong consistency in the data.
Faerie Glen and Moreleta Park both jumped up in the rankings since Q3, having previously been at 7th and 8th positions, respectively. Randpark Ridge held the top spot in the Q3 rankings.
Another noteworthy finding was that only one of the neighbourhoods in the top 10 was not in Gauteng.
This was the Cape Town City Centre, which placed 6th on the list.
It is also worth noting that the download speeds of the top neighbourhoods continue to improve each quarter.
In Q3 2024, the average download speed across the top 10 neighbourhoods was 66.98Mbps, but it increased by over 11% in Q4, reaching 74.66Mbps.
This suggests that fixed Internet providers are doing a good job of working on their infrastructure.
