Vodacom’s rapid broadband growth
During the Vodacom financial year 2013, the number of subscribers who purchased Vodacom data bundles grew to 6.6-million, up 2.4-million from 4.2-million users a year ago. This is only part of the success story.
The operator has a total of 14.4-million data users, which means that more than half of its data users do not purchase data bundles. This is despite the fact that data bundles offer far better value for money.
Over the last 12 months, Vodacom launched numerous mobile data promotions, with prices plummeting to their lowest levels ever.
The number of smartphone users on the Vodacom network also increased significantly – from 4.8-million in 2012 to 6 million in 2013. Average monthly smartphone data usage also increased by 43.4% to 139MB.
The operator highlighted that data traffic grew 39.5%, which more than offset a 17.9% reduction in the average effective price per megabyte (MB).
