Telkom 20Mbps and 40Mbps VDSL milestone

Telkom VDSL

Telkom’s latest MSAN and VDSL numbers show that the company is actively growing its 20Mbps and 40Mbps broadband network. Telkom has also reached a significant milestone with the cutover of 240 Multi Service Access Node (MSAN) units.

According to the latest statistics, Telkom had over 240 MSANs at exchanges and remote sites, up from 90 only two months ago.

The company is planning to commission another 228 MSANs shortly, which will brings the total number of MSANs to over 460.

The statistics further revealed that Telkom commissioned 185,000 20Mbps and 40Mbps VDSL ports to date.

What is particularly encouraging is that the company has grown the number of customers on VDSL ports to over 120,000.

Considering that Telkom only launched its first VDSL services in March 2013, it is clear that the company is serious about growing its MSAN and VDSL footprint.

Managing Director: Wholesale and Networks, Bashier Sallie said that apart from scoring a double century on number of MSAN’s deployed, another 53 are ready to be rolled out in the near future together with a further four exchanges representing some 175 MSANs.

“We are highly satisfied with the rapidly increasing pace at which the new generation broadband network is being deployed,” said Sallie.

Customers benefit by enjoying more reliable broadband at higher speeds and improved service delivery due to more sophisticated network management tools.

“The rapid rollout of the MSAN technology is propelling our broadband strategy forward. More and more South Africans will now be able to access super-fast broadband speeds,” said Sallie.
