Telkom 20Mbps, 40Mbps VDSL boost on its way

Telkom will go live with a large number of Multi-Service Access Nodes (MSANs) over the next two months, which will significantly grow the company’s VDSL footprint.

Telkom’s MSAN project suffered a few setbacks in 2013, partly caused by getting municipal power feeds to newly built street boxes.

These setbacks meant that Telkom pushed back some of its deadlines, but did not significantly change its MSAN roadmap.

The good news is that Telkom’s MSAN project is gaining momentum again, with numerous MSANs set to go live before April 2014.

Telkom was asked for comment on its MSAN project, but the company would not provide any information.

“It would be inappropriate for Telkom to provide information of this nature to the media, unless we have made the relevant information available to the industry in the ordinary course,” the company said.

“Accordingly we regret that we cannot provide any specifics in relation to your query at this time. As the project progresses, Telkom will engage with industry to apprise it of timelines and other information as and when this is required.”
