Ookla revamped its Net Index website to include mobile broadband performance metrics. The latest statistics show that the areas with the highest average mobile broadband speeds are Sandton, Bryanston and Cape Town.
The Net Index website, which uses data from recent test results from Speedtest.net and its mobile apps, shows that the average mobile download speed in South Africa is 5.94Mbps.
South Africa’s average mobile broadband speed is in line with the global average download speed of 7.54Mbps.

According to the Net Index website, Sandton has the highest average mobile broadband with 8.33Mbps, followed by Bryanston at 8.05Mbps and Cape Town with 7.16Mbps.
